Two members of the California Assembly, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, a Democrat from the San Ramon area, and Greg Wallis, a Republican representing Rancho Mirage, have each introduced bills aimed at increasing public access to documents sent to the Legislature by registered lobbyists and advocacy groups. These letters are currently not available for public viewing online.

The proposed legislation would require that such letters—used to support or oppose legislative bills—be posted on the Legislature’s website. CalMatters has sought broader access to these documents for more than a year.

Greg Wallis represents California’s 47th Assembly District and is active in community efforts such as coaching young golfers and supporting youth organizations according to his official biography. He also focuses on making California affordable, safe and vibrant through policies related to education, public safety and essential services (source). Wallis serves on committees including Budget and Economic Development (source), operates in the Coachella Valley area (source), and advocates for improvements in water storage, energy reliability, and youth career preparation (source). He participates in the Problem Solvers Caucus which aims to put public interests ahead of partisan divides (source).
