Assemblymember Greg Wallis (R-Palm Desert) has been recognized with the Force for Nature Award by the Power In Nature Coalition at its Third Annual Force for Nature Reception and Awards. The award highlights Wallis’s leadership in supporting California’s initiative to conserve 30 percent of its lands and coastal waters by 2030.
The Power In Nature Coalition is a statewide alliance made up of more than 250 organizations, including community groups, conservation organizations, land trusts, Indigenous organizations, and tribal partners. Their work focuses on advancing conservation efforts, climate resilience, and meeting California’s 30×30 goals.
“Theodore Roosevelt once said, ‘Of all the questions which can come before this nation . . . there is none which compares in importance with the great central task of leaving this land even a better land for our descendants than it is for us,’ ” Wallis said. “That vision still holds.”
Wallis has led several legislative actions in support of these goals. He authored AJR 9, urging Congress and the President to restore consistent funding for the National Park Service to ensure long-term protection of parks such as Joshua Tree, Yosemite, and Sequoia. He also introduced ACR 8, establishing World Desert Day in California to honor the ecological and cultural value of desert regions.
His advocacy extends to protecting the Chuckwalla National Monument—a 660,000-acre area south of Joshua Tree National Park—which is considered the largest protected region in the Colorado Desert bioregion and carries significant meaning for Indigenous communities.
Wallis has worked alongside local leaders, tribal partners, business owners, and residents to encourage federal officials to maintain protections for Chuckwalla. He pointed out that the monument enjoys “strong bipartisan support” from communities aware of its importance to both natural heritage and local economies.
In addition to his conservation efforts, Wallis engages in various community activities such as coaching young golfers and supporting youth organizations in the Coachella Valley area according to his official biography. His policy focus includes making California affordable and safe through initiatives related to education, public safety, water storage enhancement, energy reliability, and youth career preparation (source). Wallis serves on several legislative committees covering budget matters and economic development (source), participates in the Problem Solvers Caucus prioritizing public interests over partisanship (source), and advocates for policies supporting essential services (source).
