City of Palm Desert issued the following announcement on Oct. 14.
From the young volunteers who serve in the local sheriff’s explorer program to the future leaders who sit on the City’s Youth Committee, Palm Desert has a very bright future thanks to the young people who selflessly share their time and talents on behalf of this community.
One shining example is Dylan Muela, a Palm Desert High School student, and a member of local Boy Scout Troop 1701, who thoughtfully and generously decided to give new life to the backstops at the Civic Center Park ball fields as part of his Eagle Scout project.
Dylan’s longtime love of baseball inspired him to take on the project this summer after he noticed that the backstops on the fields where he practiced every week were damaged and in need of repair. After meeting with City staff, Dylan started working to install and paint brand new back stops on all four baseball diamonds at Civic Center Park.
Dylan supplied the paint and the City supplied the lumber. With the help of some fellow scouts and a few adult volunteers, Dylan recently completed the project. He accomplished this feat with the added challenge of doing the work safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant wearing masks and social distancing at all times.
The project helped Dylan realize his goal of giving other kids an opportunity to play at, and connect with, Civic Center Park in the same way that he had growing up.
The City of Palm Desert thanks and celebrates Dylan for his dedication, selflessness, and community spirit. He truly exemplifies what makes Palm Desert and its people uniquely wonderful.
